Over 130 people attended Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation’s 11th annual Spring Fling Gala Auction and Gourmet Dinner last month, raising over $92,000.

In a recent news release, organization Executive Director Charles Vreeland said he was wholly moved by the generosity of the community.

“I’ve been at WAIF a little more than six months and I’m so impressed with how much the community cares for its homeless pets,” he said in the release. “The support that Spring Fling generates is really remarkable, from on the island and off. We’re truly grateful for all the support we receive on behalf of our homeless pets and for pet owners seeking assistance.”

The all-volunteer driven event brought together animal supporters of all types, from sponsors who helped underwrite the gala to the individuals and businesses that donated quality and priceless items, which were then auctioned off to the highest bidder.

“Because of the generosity of everyone involved, it’s the homeless pets that come to WAIF who are the real winners,” the release said.

WAIF board President Bob Rupp lead the evening’s activities. Working in tandem with Rupp, the foundation welcomed back auctioneer Paul Schenfeld from Stokes Auction Group, who once again got the crowd going with fun, competitive bidding.

Making it all happen was Spring Fling Event chairpersons Dawn Ritter and Merritt Atwood, and the event committee.
