Kiwanis set up for the Fourth of July

If your kids love the rocket’s red glare, don’t let them leave home without it.

Thanks to the South Whidbey Kiwanis Club, parents have a new solution to an old problem: How to measure the amount of money their kids spend on fireworks this time of year.

The Kiwanis and the TNT Fireworks are offering a special $20 gift card that can be used to help light up the night sky on the Fourth of July.

Money raised by the Kiwanis fireworks stand goes to a good cause. Also new this year: an extra day for fireworks sales.

“This is our biggest fundraiser,” said organizer Dave Jones.

“We raise between $10,000 to $16,000 each year and all of if it goes to support 30 agencies that deal mainly with public and private schools,” he said.

The Kiwanis fireworks booth will open today at noon. It’s located in the parking lot at Ken’s Korner. Regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through July 5.

“July 5 is new for us this year so we’ll get the chance to raise a little extra,” Jones said.

Hot items for sale include artillery shells, the Big 5 Canister, Texas cyclone candles, Mad Dog fountains, Climbing Pandas and a big selection of colorful sparklers.

“It’s going to be a great holiday,” Jones said.
