The Island County Water Resource Advisory Committee meets Thursday, Aug. 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Heller Road Fire Station, 2720 Heller Road in Oak Harbor.
The advisory committee works to ensure the water resources are managed and protected in a way to ensure sustainable use while protecting habitat, environmental and human health.
The Water Resource Advisory Committee develops and oversees the implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive water resources program in Island County, and recommends to the Board of Island County Commissioners management and improvements of existing plans and programs, coordinating efforts with other water resource management activities in the county.
“We encourage public awareness, education, and involvement in water related issues,” said spokeswoman Lori Clark.
There are 12 members on the Water Resource Advisory Committee: Four from each of the county’s distinct geographical areas: North Whidbey, Central Whidbey, South Whidbey and Camano Island, representing the four water resource interests of groundwater, storm water, watershed management and salmon recovery.
