Langley City Councilman Bob Waterman has announced he will not run for reelection.

Waterman made the announcement on the city’s official blog late Monday.

“I want to thank all those who have encouraged me to run for reelection to the city council. I have thought long and hard about doing so, but have finally decided that I will not seek another term,” Waterman wrote.

“I trust that whoever replaces me will remember that councilors are elected ‘at large,’ and must try to balance a number of often conflicting opinions and inputs in making decisions that are best for the future of Langley. I wish them well,” he added.

Waterman was appointed to the Position 4 seat on the city council in summer 2006. He ran for the seat in 2007 and was unopposed.

Two other council seats are up for election this November: the two-year unexpired term for Position 2, now held by Councilman Hal Seligson; and the four-year term for Position 3, held by Councilwoman Fran Abel.

Abel has also said she will not run to retain her seat.
