The Port of South Whidbey invites the public to comment on the port’s comprehensive scheme during an upcoming open house.

From 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, people can come to Freeland Library’s Milby Community Meeting Room with their questions and ideas and enjoy the refreshments provided.

Every six years, the port develops a comprehensive scheme to describe current conditions, recommended investment projects and policy initiatives. The port is seeking input from the public while it begins the process of updating its current comprehensive scheme, which covers the years 2013-2019 and was extended in 2022 by the board of commissioners.

The planning documents describe how the port plans to spend its funding, with projects such as a rebuild of the Clinton Dock, an upgrade of the Bush Point residence and the design for the Possession Beach Boat Ramp. Other undertakings listed are less specific, such as “Provide additional kayaking and non-motorized boating opportunities.”

A supplemental document with public comments was last created in 2014.

Two amendments added in 2016 and 2018 included the Whidbey Island Fairgrounds, which the port acquired, and parking in Mukilteo.
