Volunteer Appreciation Celebration
We are excited to recognize all of our volunteers’ contributions at our first annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
We couldn’t provide the services and support we do without the help of community volunteers. Please join us for an afternoon of fun, appreciation and a delicious dessert buffet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at Bayview Hall.

New FRC Summer Hours And DSHS Outreach
The Family Resource Center has new summer hours. We will be open for drop-in from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 24. We will be available by appointment only on Mondays and Fridays.
Barbara Darnell from DSHS will continue to be available to families over the summer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. We look forward to seeing you.
SummerFUN is almost here
Get active! Learn a new skill! Be creative!
SummerFun, a program for teens (next year’s grades 6-12) is sponsored by the South Whidbey Commons, the South Whidbey Family Resource Center, the South Whidbey Community Engagement Center and the South Whidbey School District’s Learning and Community Engagement Program.
Choose from an array of classes including wool felting, camera crash and darkroom dash, knitting and rock climbing.
All classes, unless otherwise indicated, will take place at the backroom at the South Whidbey Commons, located behind Island Coffeehouse in Langley. Scholarships are available.

Join us for our annual SummerFun barbecues. Call the center to RSVP family name and number attending. They take place at the Family Resource Center.
Our BBQ dates are Thursday, July 11 and Thursday, Aug. 7.
RAPP
The Relatives As Parents local support group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon every second Thursday of the month at the Family Resource Center (behind the Primary School).
Join us for coffee, refreshments and some great conversation. Come and kick back with other grandparents raising grandchildren and parents raising nieces and nephews.
Single Mom’s Group
Our group is open to any mom who is parenting alone, or feels alone, and needs the support of other single moms. Join this great group in a casual and confidential atmosphere, right here in the Family Resource Center.
We meet once a month providing a light dinner and free childcare. This is your group so bring yourself, your ideas, your joys and your challenges to this supportive environment.

Volunteer of the Month
Our June volunteer of the month is Josh Neil.
Josh is a junior at South Whidbey High School and a Life Scout working on his Eagle Scout rank.
Josh approached the Family Resource Center with a project proposal, which involved other scouts and adults in his troop, to create a cement patio behind our portable and build much-needed shelving in our storage unit.
Josh took on a leadership role as he planned and supervised this project. He delegated duties and saw the project through to completion.
We are impressed with Josh’s confidence, organization and easy-going personality. We love our new shelves and patio and are so much better organized now.
