The financial institution has promised match up to $5,000 in community donations for the program, which includes growing, gleaning, preserving, and processing fresh fruits and vegetables for South Whidbey friends, neighbors, and families in need.

Good Cheer believes everyone should have access to fresh food, according to a recent news release.

“We try to level the playing field and provide fresh food to people who typically don’t have the choice to eat with nutrition and health in mind,” said Kathy McCabe, Good Cheer’s executive director. “That’s why we’re so thrilled about this fundraising match with Whidbey Island Bank.”

The only food bank on South Whidbey, Good Cheer gives away an average of 58,000 pounds of food per month. Among Good Cheer’s clients are single-parent households, families where both parents are employed, people who have lost their jobs, seniors and disabled individuals on fixed incomes, the homeless, and the working poor, the release said.

To make a donation, stop by any Good Cheer location, go online to www.goodcheer.org/donate, or mail a check to PO Box 144, Langley, WA 98260.

Deadline is July 31.
