Whidbey Island Boys and Girls Clubs are celebrating their new locations during two events slated for this month.

The Coupeville Boys and Girls Club will break ground for its new building at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17. Hopes and plans for this new building came to fruition when the Washington State Legislature allotted the club $1.03 million to cover construction costs in the 2021-23 capital budget.

The state had previously given more than $800,000 to the club to be put toward the new building, and the club had also raised around $100,000 in local funds.

The site is located at 706 South Main St., Coupeville.

The Oak Harbor club will dedicate its new building at 3 p.m. Friday, July 23. Previously housed in the old Roller Barn, the club moved into the former Burley Funeral Chapel earlier this year after converting the building to better suit the club’s needs.

The new Oak Harbor club is located at 30 SE Ely St., Oak Harbor.

“We’re happy to be able to serve kids in bigger and better facilities by celebrating our opening in Oak Harbor and our groundbreaking for a new club in Coupeville,” said Bill Tsoukalas, executive director of Snohomish and Island Counties Boys and Girls Clubs. “Thank you to everyone who helped.”
