The Whidbey Island Conservation District will conduct its annual board of supervisors election on March 16, and there’s one elected position open this year.

The position on the five-member board is currently held by Erin Borden.

The term runs for three years, and any registered voter in Island County residing on Whidbey Island who is a landowner or farm operator is eligible to run for this supervisor position.

District supervisors identify conservation needs, set priorities for the district, oversee financial operations and oversee actions to protect soil, water, wildlife and other natural resources.

The board generally meets on the fourth Thursday of each month in Coupeville.

Time is running out for those hoping to enter the race. Candidates must submit a nominating petition, signed by 25 or more Island County registered voters (residing on Whidbey), postmarked by Feb. 16 and mailed to WICD at P.O. Box 490, Coupeville, WA, 98239. Nominating petitions for elected supervisors may be obtained by contacting WICD at 360-678-4708.

The election is from 3 to 7 p.m. March 16, in the separate conference room of the Whidbey Island Conservation District (404 NE Center St., Coupeville).
