Island County Medical Officer Roger Case said anyone who participated in the recent learn-to-swim program held by the Coupeville Lions may have been exposed to pertussis.
Children and others who participated in the swimming classes may have been exposed to someone recently diagnosed as having pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, Case said.
The swimming program was held at Admiral’s Cove Pool between June 23 through July 2.
The Island County Public Health Department currently has reports of laboratory-confirmed cases of people who attended the swim classes. The department is looking for people who attended classes that were held at 9:40, 11, 11:40 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
A total of 31 cases of whooping cough have been reported through last week. Health officials have said most of the cases are coming from Central and South Whidbey.
