WICA, WhidbeyTV to collaborate

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) recently announced a production collaboration with WhidbeyTV and the filming of “Ship Ahoy!” “Ship Ahoy!” is a new scripted children’s television series to be filmed at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ facilities this summer. The collaboration between Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and WhidbeyTV will create opportunities for youth in WICA’s summary conservatory program to learn about television production, according to a press release.

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) recently announced a production collaboration with WhidbeyTV and the filming of “Ship Ahoy!” “Ship Ahoy!” is a new scripted children’s television series to be filmed at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ facilities this summer.

The collaboration between Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and WhidbeyTV will create opportunities for youth in WICA’s summary conservatory program to learn about television production, according to a press release. Students will be invited on set and introduced to the work environment and various individual roles in a live production studio: gaffer, grips, sound mixer, properties master, costuming, makeup, script supervisor and overall production coordination.

There will also be youth internship opportunities for the filming of “Ship Ahoy!” during July and August. Production is expected to wrap up at the end of August. The television series is expect to air sometime in early fall.

“This is a new venture for both WICA, Whidbey Telecom and Whidbey TV,” said Whidbey Telecom Co-CEO George Henny. “There’s a lot we’re going to learn in the process and were looking forward to more of these kinds of productions in the future. We think there’s a great opportunity with the wealth of talent on South Whidbey and we will certainly be looking forward to inspiring people to participate.”
