A Langley man was injured Saturday in a chain-reaction accident apparently caused by driver inattention.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Bobby Wimberly, 59, of Langley was hurt when a car struck from behind on Highway 525 swerved out of its lane and struck his 1994 Buick. In the patrol report, Travis Seiverson-Haveck, 18, of Greenbank is shown as causing the accident.

Driving south on the highway near the intersection with Howard Road, Seiverson-Haveck drove his 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck into the back of a 1997 Dodge Caravan driven by Jon Kindred of Mercer Island. The force of that impact sent Kindred’s vehicle in a corner-to-corner, front-end impact with Wimberly’s car, sending Wimberly’s Buick into a ditch, where it rolled over.

Emergency medical technicians and firefighters freed Wimberly from his vehicle then, with assistance from Whidbey General Hospital paramedics, removed him from the ditch on a stretcher. He was transported to the hospital, treated for minor brusies and released.

The only other injury in the crash, a split lip, was sustained by one of five passengers in Kindred’s Caravan.

The state patrol would not release information on whether Seiverson-Haveck will be charged in connection with the accident.
