Rhianna Dickson Hobbs of Freeland, 6½, received praise in April 2008 for a drawing she did of President Barack Obama during his campaign for president.
Community members were intrigued by Rhianna’s crayon drawing of Obama and how well the simple portrait captured the character of the candidate.
A graphic printing company on the Web, cafepress.com, bought the artwork to use on T-shirts, mugs and other items.
Rhianna, an animal lover, decided to use the payment she received for the sale of the design to help orphaned dogs and cats.
With the help of her twin brother Ryder, she was able to purchase more than
50 pounds of cat and dog food for the ownerless animals at the Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation in Coupeville.
