Alberta Wardell

Alberta Mae (Gabelein) Wardell suffered a massive stroke on Feb.12. She spent some time in the hospital, then was admitted to Oakwood Villa nursing home in Altoona, Wisc. where she passed away on Feb. 23, 2006.

Alberta was born May 18, 1927 to Albert and Cora Gabelein in the family home at Lone Lake.

She attended Bayview Grade School and graduated from Langley High School in 1945.

Alberta was a member of the Rainbow Girls and past president of the American Legion Post 141 Ladies Auxiliary.

In the fall of 1952 she married Jack Wardell. They met when both were working for Puget Power in Langley. They moved to Oak Harbor when Puget Power moved the line headquarters. While living there she drove a school bus for the Oak Harbor School District for more than 20 years.

Jack preceded her in death in 1979.

Alberta moved to Eau Claire, Wisc., in 1992 to be closer to her daughter and grandsons.

She is survived by her daughter Roberta (Richard) Wooster Sr. of Annapolis, Mo; three grandsons, Thomas (Angie) Wheeler of Eau Claire, Pvt. Tyeth N. (Jessie) Wheeler of Fort Benning, Ga., Richard Wooster Jr. of Annapolis, Mo; one great-grandson Garrett Wheeler; her brother Raynard (Beverly) Gabelein of Langley and two sisters Eileen Peterson of Seattle, and Doris (Norman) Stockholm of Langley.

A casual memorial will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club.
