Campbell Sperry
Avis Dora Campbell Sperry, 72, died Oct. 1, 2003, at her home on Whidbey Island.
She was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Lane Cove, Sydney, Australia, to Stanley Wallace Martin and Nellie Vera Pym Martin. She grew up in Sydney, and in September 1952 married Marshall S. Campbell, an American. Over the next few years they had four sons, and lived in both the United States and Australia.
In 1968 they settled permanently in Washington state, and in 1969 she became a U.S. citizen. Although she loved her adopted country, in her heart she remained an Aussie. She was divorced in 1985. She married Weldon J. Sperry in 1990.
The most important thing that ever happened to her was becoming a Christian and meeting Jesus Christ personally at age 31. This is a legacy that she has passed on to her family.
She is survived by her husband, Weldon; her sons and their families, Craig and Stephanie Campbell, Robert Campbell, Andy and Terri Campbell, and Dave and Kelly Campbell; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church will be used to support a project sponsored by Wycliffe Bible Translators to advance the gospel.
Visser Funeral Home, Langley, is in charge of arrangements.
