Axie Lucille Peterson, daughter of Daniel and Orah Fern Peterson and wife of Royal Paul Peterson, passed away on Aug. 27, 2007 at the age of 94.
She was born in Kearney, Neb. on April 21, 1913. Her family resided in several towns in Nebraska before moving to Hastings, where she attended Hastings High School and Hastings Business College.
After graduation, she was employed at several local stores until she became a secretary at Central Nebraska Millwork Co., where Paul worked, and Paul’s father was manager and secretary/treasurer.
Lucille and Paul were married on Jan. 13, 1933 in Hildreth, Neb. In 1935, they moved to California residing first in Indio, then in Los Angeles.
Beginning in 1945, they were members of Baptist churches for many years. They were also members of Calvary Church of Pacific Palisades, then Whidbey Evangelical Free Church. Lucille attended Langley Christian and Missionary Church after her husband’s death.
Lucille sang in choirs and as a soloist, and served in each church, using many of her God-given talents. She enjoyed gardening, music and loved to travel, visiting friends and relatives all over the country.
In 1955, after taking a refresher course at Harbor Junior College, she was employed by the Los Angeles City School District as a school secretary. After moving to Malibu, Calif., in 1959, she was employed by the Santa Monica School District, as a secretary to the school principal.
Lucille and Paul moved to Whidbey Island in November 1978 where they resided on Island Way in Langley. Their daughter Charlotte and son-in-law Roger Duke built a home in Langley with an apartment for her parents, into which they moved in July 2000.
Lucille moved to HomePlace Special Care in Oak Harbor in March 2004.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Paul. They parented five children: Paul of Centennial, Colo.; Allan of Weslaco, Texas; Charlotte of Langley; Nancy, who passed away in 1980; and Daniel of Reseda, Calif. In addition, they had 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Lucille was a loving and caring mother, wife, grandmother and friend throughout her life and will be sorely missed.
