Former Langley resident Barry Michael Levit, 74, passed away at home on February 25, 2024. Barry was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 15, 1950, the son of Harold and Frieda Levit. He was a 1968 graduate of Shaker Heights High School. He received a BA in Social Work from the University of Toledo in 1972, and a Master’s degree in Education from Washington State University in 1978.
After college, Barry was a Vista volunteer in Nome, Alaska. There he married Kate Angnabooguk in 1976. They have two sons, Timothy and Casey. They moved to Fairbanks in 1981 where he worked for the State of Alaska, often traveling to the small remote villages. He also had private counseling practice. Barry’s passion was baseball and in 1988 he attended Mets Fantasy camp; a dream fulfilled.
In 2006 Barry married Jody Johnson in Homer, AK. Their plans for retirement took a detour when they adopted his three grandchildren, Kyra, Ava and Jack. The family moved to Whidbey Island, WA in 2011. Barry continued his private practice and kept busy with the kids’ sports, 4-H fairs, and dance events.
In 2023 the family moved to Lawrence, KS. He continued his private practice, a profession he so enjoyed, until his death.
Barry is survived by his wife Jody, his children Kyra, Ava and Jack of the home, his sons Timothy and Casey of Fairbanks, AK, his stepson Garrett Gonzales of Afton, WY, his sister Leslie Friedman of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
