Bonnie Cameron Shoup, of Freeland, died at home in her daughter’s arms early Saturday morning, Sept. 8, 2007, just shy of her 88th birthday.
The daughter of Freeland pioneers Arthur and Ethel (Partridge) Spencer, Bonnie was born Sept. 13, 1919 at her grandmother’s home in Mukilteo.
She was a lifetime resident of Freeland. She attended the two-room Mutiny Bay Grade School, grades one through eight, and graduated from Langley High School in 1937.
She married Donald Cameron at her parent’s home in 1939.
They settled into their family home on Cameron Road where Bonnie was busy with the farm animals, a small fruit orchard, a large garden and raising four children.
When her husband became too ill to work, she earned a licensed practical nursing degree. She worked nine years at the White Acres Nursing Home in Freeland, followed by nine years with
Dr. Don Purdy in Langley.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Cameron in 1983; her second husband, Leonard “Bill” Shoup in 1997; and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Ethel Becker in 2001.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Donna and her husband Johnnie Schell of Kent, Betty and her husband, Lowell Discher of Freeland, Donald Cameron who lives in Texas and Bunny Cameron of Bainbridge Island; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
