Charles Bevitt “Sandy” Sanderson, 80, died peacefully in his sleep April 30, 2003.
He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Seattle to Charles and Agnes Sanderson.
He attended St. Joseph’s, Seattle Prep and graduated from Seattle University. He married his college sweetheart, Bettie Claes, and settled in the View Ridge area. They raised five children in Assumption Parish. He took care of his wife, who contracted multiple sclerosis early in their marriage. In later years he moved his family to Whidbey Island and changed his cabin into his home.
According to his family, the people who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor, gentleness and knowledge of the stock market. He was active in his community and took a keen interest in the environment.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Sanderson Roberts and Sharlie Sanderson Neuport.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Dee Sanderson Magnano; three sons, Chuck and his wife, Suzanne, Michael and his wife, Susan, and Paul and his wife, Sandy; two daughters, Susan Sanderson DeLong and her husband, Mark, and Katherine Sanderson Valenta; five grandchildren, Adam and Phillip Sanderson, Allison and Myles DeLong and Boone Valenta; and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. May 16 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley. A reception will follow at Sandy’s home in Maxwelton. Maps will be available at the service.
