Charles W. Miller, 83, died Sept. 24, 2003, at Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon.
He was born May 20, 1920, in Haxton, Colo., to Carl and Effie Miller. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska. He and his family moved to Eastern Washington when Charles was a teenager, and he attended Okanogan High School. In 1941 he meet Geraldine “Gerry” Brixner. They were married Jan. 31, 1942, at the Little Brown Church at Maxwelton. They made their first home in Winthrop, and moved back to Maxwelton three years later.
Mr. Miller started with Washington State Ferries in 1951 and retired in 1981. Following his retirement he and his wife loved to travel in their RV, seeing much of the United States. He was a huge fan of the Seattle Mariners and he loved to garden and bowl. He was always a faithful fan in the bleachers for family and friends participating with the South Whidbey High School Falcons.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry; two sons, Michael C. Miller and his wife, Jean, of Bow, and Robert D. Miller and his wife, Alice, of Clinton; two daughters, Laurel A.Vodopich and her husband, Paul, of Bellingham, and Janet A.Tucker of Stanwood; a sister, Norma Lewis of Okanogan; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services in remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Maxwelton Christian Fellowship, with Rev. Neil Jolin officiating. A private family graveside will precede at the Clinton Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
