On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, long-time Oak Harbor resident, Charles W. Oliver “Chuck” danced his way into Heaven.
Chuck was born June 19, 1944 to Lacy and Emma Oliver (MacLeod) in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of four children, his siblings Robert Lacy, Betty, and Alice.
Chuck proudly served his country for over 25 years. He joined the Air Force in 1967, transferred to the US Navy in 1973. Chuck spent time on the USS Ranger, USS Nimitz, USS Enterprise, and the USS Kitty Hawk before retiring in June 1993. He received many awards and commendations for his exemplary service.
If you had the good fortune of knowing Chuck, you experienced his big grin when he greeted you. His smile reached his eyes with a sparkle and he most likely asked you “Hey! How’ya doin?” Chuck always had great stories to share about his travels all over the world and the interesting people he met along the way. He loved a good cup of coffee, all things aviation, traveling, was quite the dancer, a talented artist, and enjoyed road trips. Chuck had a big heart filled with compassion for others and volunteered regularly at a soup kitchen. His kindness and generosity touched many lives.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, son Raymond Oliver, and first wife, Trudy Bell. He is survived by children David Oliver (Diana), Jason Oliver, Darren Oliver, and Kym Herrmann (Rick), twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild with another arriving soon, sister Alice Warren, and former wife Fern Oliver. Chuck is also survived by close friends whom he considered family, Pope Tammy Awe, Gary Munger, and Bernice Kistler.
February 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm there will be a grave side Honor Guard ceremony at Maple Leaf Cemetery with a celebration of Chuck’s life at Orlando’s Southern BBQ in Oak Harbor, WA (656 SE Bayshore Drive) following at 1:00 pm.
