Chester Arthur Schlee, 90, died at his home in Freeland on March 23, 2004. He was born Oct. 25, 1913 in Mukilteo. He was the son of Arthur and Grayce Schlee. He moved to Whidbey Island three years ago.
He served in the Navy during World War II in Okinawa. He managed Grand Construction, built gas stations throughout western Washington and several of the buildings used for the Seattle World’s Fair exhibition in 1962.
He enjoyed golf and travel, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna B. Schlee; sister Beverly Bednarik; nieces and nephews Stephanie Palmer, Bob Cone, Bill and Chee Cone and Mike and Barbara Berry; and stepchildren Fred and Kathy Deveau, Dennis and Carla Egerton and Bill and Donna Egerton.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. today, March 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. Arrangements are under the direction of Visser Funeral Home in Langley.
