Clara Gladys Helland Kohlwes, 88, of Clinton, died Dec. 31, 2002.
She was born May 23, 1914, in Moscow, Idaho, to Carl and Gurine Helland, formerly of Clinton.
She attended Deer Lake School and graduated from Langley High School in 1932. She was the fifth of 12 children, and was a lifelong resident of Whidbey Island.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Smith and her husband, Cliff, of Marysville and Thelma Hoiland and her husband, Oran, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; five children, Arlene Scott and her husband, Jim, of Langley, Alfred Kohlwes and his wife, Jeannie, of Bothell, Karen Brady and her husband, Frank, of Woodinville, Kathleen Woeck and her husband, Peter, of Casper, Wyo., and Michael Kohlwes and his wife, Janet, of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Vickie Steiner and husband Eric, Dina Armour, Laurie Guthrie and husband Chris, Rod Scott, Christine Uffens and husband Todd, Cheryl McCaffery and husband Chad, Frank Brady and wife Vickie, Jeff Brady and wife Sarah, Kerry Brady, Jennifer Frisch and husband Rusty, Rob Woeck and wife Brita, Jeremy Kohlwes and James Kohlwes; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Bayview Cemetery.
