Don was born in Ravenna, Mich. to John and Nettie Lane on Jan. 6, 1938. He left the farm at the age of 18 to serve his country in the Air Force. While stationed in Germany, he met a girl named Helga who would become his wife and partner in life for the next 60 years. After a brief return to Michigan, Don was offered a job with the Boeing Company. This began his life in the Pacific Northwest, where he truly enjoyed his time on the water with a fishing pole.
Don was a man of few words and dry humor, who showed his love and compassion for his family through years of hard work, both on the job and at home. A skilled carpenter, mechanic and electronics expert, Don could (and did) build or fix just about anything. He used those skills and ingenuity to better two generations of family with his selfless hours of building and repairs. Most importantly he taught his kids and grandkids the value of hard work, perseverance and a relentless drive.
He is sorely missed by his loving wife Helga, his three children Anita, Doris and Donald; his children’s spouses Chuck, James and Julie; his grandchildren Nichole, Charlie and wife Tianne, Jessica, Joey and Mackenna; and by his great grandchildren Kayla, Ava and Zach.
We all wish you smooth waters on your next journey.
