Doreen Ann Farrington died quietly at home after a brief illness, surrounded by people who loved her.
Born April 3, 1918 in Rock Ferry, England, Doreen grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in a happy family of seven.
Very soon after her graduation from nursing school, she enlisted in the Canadian Army and was always proud of the six years she spent overseas during the war. She later married and became a U.S. citizen, raising three kids in the Midwest.
When her first marriage ended, Doreen moved to San Francisco, Calif. where she met the late Thomas Farrington. They had 37 happy years together, including 17 years spent on Orcas Island. They returned to island living with their last home on Whidbey and loved the people there.
Doreen is survived by her brother, Dr. Alan Johnston; her children, Sydney, Guy and John Anderson; and stepson, Thomas Farrington Jr.
Courageous, sweet and full of fun, we will miss you, our dearest one. Thank you for all the love you left us.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Langley.
