Doris Lorene Condon was born March 3, 1915 in Seattle to Antrim and Alice Beach. She passed away July 1, 2010 at her Whidbey Island home. Shortly after celebrating her 95th birthday, she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive anaplastic thyroid cancer.
She was active, independent and an ispiration to all, especially her family. How thankful we are for a healthy and happy 95 years. And how she loved her garden and listening to the waves from the beach!
Doris volunteered for many organizations and events; the WGH Guild for 25 years and Community Thrift Store for 16 years. She was a member of the Lincoln High School Alumni Association, Useless Bay Golf & Country Club and Langley United Methodist Church.
Her granddaughter Julie wrote a message that pretty much says it all: “Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. You will be the first bright blossom in the spring and we will listen for you to whisper to us through the wind in the trees. You are the kind of person we will strive to be and we will always love and cherish you, forever in our hearts.”
Special thanks to Dr. Lee Roof, Carla Jolley and the special “angels” from Whidbey General Home Health & Hospice, and Island Home Nursing for their compassionate and loving care during her illness.
She is survived by her daughters Dianne Burrill, Susanne Morgenroth and Colleen Runnells (Don); grandchildren Julie Martinez, Mark Burrill (Nina Torres), Lisa Morgenroth and Matthew Morgenroth; and great-grandchildren Jason Martinez (Madison) and Marisa Martinez. Also great-great-grandchildren Thaddaeus Martinez and a baby girl due in September. She had numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, John Gordon Condon, in 1992, her parents, and her brothers Bob Beach and Harold Beach.
At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WGH Home Health & Hospice (101 N. Main St., Coupeville, WA 98239) or Senior Services of Island County (14594 SR 525, Langley, WA 98260).
