Doris Newlands passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the age of 97.
She spent her first 90 years in Massachusetts, but on her 90th birthday she started a new adventure on Whidbey Island. She loved her seven years living on the island, where she was welcomed with kindness and friendship.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Newlands; loving mother of Marsha Russell, Sheila Newlands and the late Wayne Newlands; dear mother-in-law of Allen Russell and the late Margaret Newlands; and the cherished grandmother of Michelle La Valle, Michael Newlands, Keith Newlands and Jeffrey Russell. She had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Being one of eight children, she is a sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Freeland.
She will be buried with her husband in Paxton Memorial Park, Paxton, Mass. Memorial services in Massachusetts are being planned.
