Dwayne Milton Hunter, 73, died at his home in Freeland on Dec. 10, 2003. He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Devils Lake, N.D., to John and Eleanor Stewart Hunter. He worked for many years as a restaurant chef. He moved to Whidbey Island in 1982. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Oak Harbor.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his ex-wife, Norma J. Hunter of Freeland; five children and their spouses: Jeffery and Angela Hunter of Federal Way; Karen and Phillip Thompson of Spokane; John and Karen Hunter of Renton; Kelly and Cliff West of Rainier, Ore.; and David and Lisa Hunter of SeaTac. He is survived by stepchildren, Vicki and Richard Buckovick of Las Vegas, Nev.; Raecheal Dalton of Freeland and Linda and Steve Owensby of Langley. One brother, Kenneth Hunter of Canby, Ore.; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Memorial services for Dwayne M. Hunter will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland with the Rev. Jim Lindus and the Rev. Kim Berg officiating. Cremation was previously held, with private family inurnment to follow at a later date.
