Edward Gholson

Edward J. Gholson, 86, went home to be with the Lord March 11, 2004. He was with his wife and daughter at their home in California.

Ed was born May 3, 1917, in Auburn to Harry and Molly (Edwards) Gholson. He grew up in and around the Everett area.

He met Margaret Elkins in 1938. They were married Jan. 1, 1940, and had 64 wonderful years together. He lived and worked in the Ballard area of Seattle for many years. In 1980, Ed and Margaret retired to their home — which he helped build — at Harrington Lagoon in Coupeville. His summers were spent fishing, crabbing, and clam digging, always surrounded by friends and family. They had a second home in Yuma, Ariz., where they spent 22 years of retirement in the winter months. During those years, they met many dear friends. Ed was a 50-year member of the Ballard Elks Club and Masonic Lodge. He was also an El Zaribah Shriner and member of Valley of Phoenix Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by his brother Cecil Gholson. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter Penny (Al) Kittleson of Clinton; grandson Shawn (Alexis) Eveland of Freeland; great-grandsons Anthony and Brandon of Freeland; niece Kathy (Bob) Huggins; nephew John (Elizabeth) Gholson; and a great-niece and great-nephews.

A service will be held Thursday at Purdy and Walters at Cassidy in Everett. Pastor Matt Chambers of the Assembly of God in Langley will conduct the service followed by a Rose Croix Scottish Rite memorial ceremony and reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to Phoenix Scottish Rite Bodies, 77 E. Columbus Ave., Suite 215, Phoenix, AZ 85012-2352. All funds are distributed among scholarship and literacy programs.
