Eleanor Louise Roodzant Mann Olsen was born to Henry and Marie Roodzant on June 11, 1939, in Oak Harbor, Wash., on the family farm which is now the naval air station. She grew up, went to school, and lived most of her life in Oak Harbor. Her father was from Rotterdam and her mother was a Zylstra. She passed on to her Father the Lord Jesus Christ on July 1, 2021, at Skagit Valley Hospital at the age of 82. Her family was by her side.
She was preceded in death by her sister Viola Mae and her husband Don Mercer; brothers Jack, Robert and Bill Roodzant; Melody’s husband Dick Jones; and William’s daughter Josie Olsen. She is survived by her husband William Olsen; sisters Melody Roodzant Jones and Maryann and Ron James; Jack’s wife Janan Roodzant; Bill’s wife Lona Roodzant; and her brother Robert’s wife Lee; eight children, Pennie Lee Cavender, Bobby Randal (Randy) Mann, Jeffrey Raymond Mann, Cynthia (Cindy) Louise Wade-McBride, Rick Marshal Mann, Everett Olsen, Idella Olsen, Ebbe Olsen; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Ellie, as she was known, could not stand to be away from her children and as she loved all children, opened a daycare in her home so she would always be there for her own. She was very creative, loved cake decorating, interior design, was a wonderful seamstress and loved to play video games. One of her favorite places in the whole world was Deception Pass.
She has gone home now, to her beloved Jesus, but she will be deeply missed by all of us here, who loved her. It brings us such peace to know that one day we will see her again in eternity, when at last we have finished our course and go home to be with the Lord.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church.
