Emily Day 75 of Langley, WA passed away peacefully on 15 Nov 2023 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was born Janet Ann Day on 28 March 1948 but changed her name to Emily when she was in her early 20’s. She grew up in Napolean, Ohio and graduated with honors from Miami University of Ohio. After college she taught high school in New Haven, Connecticut and Washington DC.
Her life long passion was dance. She studied and danced with Barbara Mettler and Gabriel Roth dance companies as well as her own dance troop in Seattle. She taught her own form of creative dance to pre-school children on South Whidbey for over 30 years. She also created a retail business “Dancing Colors” that manufactured and marketed scarves for dancing, costuming and play. Her Dancing Colors can be found around the world.
In 1995 she met and later married her dear friend and partner Michael Flanagan.
Emily loved scuba diving and cross country skiing. She amassed over 1000 dives and spent countless winter hours on the Methow Valley ski trails. She lived a full life following her dreams and passions. Her daily mantra was “Love well, live fully, let go.”
She is survived by her husband Michael and his children Erin Morgan & Colin Flanagan of South Whidbey and her brother Alan Day, his wife Maggie, and their 3 children Brenden, Michael and Katie of the Virgin Islands.
