On July 19, 2011, Estelle Dunlavy left this earth behind and headed for her new home in eternity. Estelle was 96 years old and passed away peacefully at her home in Clinton.
Estelle was born May 15, 1915 in St. Louis, Mo. and was preceded in death by her husband, James Dunlavy.
Estelle leaves behind two daughters, Beth Itaya of Clinton and Bonnie Dunlavy of Freeland. Estelle also leaves seven grandchildren: Joseph Itaya, Jordan Itaya, Gabriel Itaya, Grace Itaya, James Itaya, Tiffany Gilfillen, Cody Gilfillen and three great-grandchildren, Chloe Itaya, Jack Itaya and Te’a Itaya. Also two son-in-laws, Joseph Itaya and Keith Gilfillen. All of Estelle’s family will miss her very much.
Over the course of her life, Estelle was a vibrant contributor to many civic causes. She served as a WAC during World War II and continued to donate uncountable hours to many cherished ideals. Some of the organizations which Estelle dedicated 10 or more years of her life include: the American Red Cross, California foster parenting, the PTA for her children, the election polls, presidential campaigning, Whidbey General Hospital Caritas Guild, Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and lots of church work, too. Estelle’s commitment to these causes sprang from an inner prompting to make this world a better place. Her savior was Jesus Christ.
Estelle will be buried at the Presidio National Cemetery, overlooking the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge. A memorial service will be held at Joe and Beth Itaya’s home at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 31. Their address is 3852 Springwater Lane, Clinton (579-3697).
