Evelyn Katherine McNamara of Freeland passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
She was the eldest of two daughters, born on May 5, 1923 to Jack and Katherine McNamara in Fresno, Calif. Evelyn spent most of her life in Southern California and spent her retirement years in Seal Beach, Calif. She made her home at Leisure World, where she enjoyed the companionship of her many friends. Her career was in office administration, and she retired proudly from OPEIU Local 30.
To those who knew her, Evelyn will always be remembered by her feisty ways and “never give in” attitude; her independence was her driving force. Although Evelyn’s stature was petite, her perseverance and strong will were larger then life. Evelyn loved to travel and did so at every opportunity. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and musicals, and loved stage productions.
Evelyn is survived by her niece Katie Cox and her husband Dennis of Clinton; her nephew John Marker and his wife Meg of Clinton; her grandniece Shannon Martin and her husband Uriel of Woodinville; and her grandnephew Eric Galindo and his wife Julie; and two great-grandnieces Taryn and Olivia of Chino.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 14 at Visser Funeral Home; Evelyn was laid to rest at Bayview Cemetery in Langley.
Evelyn had a fondness for angels and we take comfort that she is forever tucked in the shelter of their wings.
The family would like to give special thanks to Whidbey General Hospital, Careage Care of Whidbey, her friends at Maple Ridge Assisted Living, Dr. Patrice O’Neill; Janice and Mo and Anna Torres.
