Fara Rose Wexler passed away peacefully in her sleep at 3:00 am on October 28, 2021 at Snohomish Health and Rehab. She was 91 years old. Fara and her late husband Lee were south Whidbey Island residents for nearly 30 years. She is survived by her son Mark who lives in Renton Washington.
Fara was foremost an artist, teacher, wife and mother. She always had something to give to young people and especially to children. At family gatherings she was almost always talking to the children or holding a baby. She was a mom and mentor to several in her career and to young ones in the family and well loved.
She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and attended the public schools and eventually UCLA. She met her future husband Lee, at UCLA and they were married in 1951. Her college studies earned her a BA in Fine Arts and a teaching credential. In time, she became a master teacher and received a lifetime credential from the state of California. The subjects taught were mostly visual arts, but also history and ESL to Hispanic students. Also, she earned a Masters Degree in Administration from Pepperdine University. Eventually, she ended up as an administrator for art programs for over 600 schools in the Los Angeles school district and a consultant for the Getty Museum. She was instrumental in developing the curriculum for the dedicated arts high school in Los Angeles.
Fara and her husband Lee had large and varied social circles. Fara would often host and entertain guests at their Whidbey Island home and was renowned for her attention to her home interior and seasonal arrangements of flowers, sculpture, and artwork.
Fara will be remembered for kindness to all she met and also her willingness to offer help to those in need. Memorial/celebration services are pending.
