Frank Daniel Deffries, 78, of Freeland, died March 11, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Everett to James and Nora Deffries. When he was 6, his family moved to a farm in Upper Michigan. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II.
When he returned from the war he moved back to the Pacific Northwest, where he met and married Phyllis Roberta Grove on March 8, 1947. They had three children, Frank Daniel Jr., Sandra Lee and Kristine Kay. He graduated from Northwest Nazarene College with a degree in education. As a junior high school teacher and coach for 35 years, he was committed to the children he taught.
After retiring, he and his wife moved to their Bush Point home. Mr. Deffries enjoyed spending time with family and friends watching beautiful sunsets and walking on the beach. He joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, where he became an active member of the church family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, and a son, Dan Deffries.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandie Husom of Clinton and Krysti Wilkinson; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Visser Funeral Home, Langley. Internment will follow at Bayview Cemetery at 2 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland.
Edward Paul Mulcahy
Edward Paul Mulcahy, 47, of Camano Island, died March 9, 2003, after a long struggle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 19, 1955, in Worcester, Mass. He was a chief engineer and worked for Washington State Ferries for 20 years.
He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Mulcahy; a brother, Francis Mulcahy, and his wife, Maureen; a sister, Mary Ellen Branan, and her husband, William; two nephews, Eddie and Sean Mulcahy; and five nieces, Colleen, Kerry, Breanne and Kayley Mul-
cahy and Sarah Branan.
A service was held Wednesday at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley.
