Frank Douglas Helvey, Sr. (Pops), 69, of Freeland, WA, passed away on June 11th, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his mother, Carol of Lake Stevens; his siblings, Cindy (Gary), Stephanie, Delaree (Brian), and Rochelle (Kevin); his five children, Ginger (Dale), Sonya, Frank Jr. (Annette), Stephen (Kristie), and Michael; his ten grandchildren; and countless, nieces and nephews and friends he considered family. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Frank Delano Helvey and his beloved wife Micki Helvey.

Doug was born on January 8, 1954, in Seattle, WA, attended Lake Stevens High School and was in the class of 1972. In October of 1972, he began working for The Boeing Company at its Everett facility. He continued his career at Boeing for 38 years and retired April 10, 2010.

In 1979, Doug moved to Whidbey Island where he met the love of his life, Micki, and they raised their five children together. When Doug was not working, he loved to go fishing, boating, and hunting. He was known by many people as, “Santa Claus,” living life to the fullest one day at a time.

For those that knew Doug well, he can be remembered making his request for cremation by stating, “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” (by Willie Nelson). He requested that we take his ashes fishing and scatter them in his two favorite fishing holes. There will be a celebration of life with family and close friends on July 8th at the Eagles in Freeland from 1-4. You may donate to Hospice in his honor as an alternative to flowers.
