Lee (Hamersley) Wright passed away on Thursday, August 8th after a long illness. Lee was born in Hartford Connecticut in 1944, the third child of five of his parents, Douglass and Jane Hamersley Wright. He attended Kingswood School in Connecticut and then Stanford University. After graduating in 1966, he joined the Peace Corp, serving for 2 years in Thailand. Upon returning stateside, he taught school in Connecticut while going to law school at night, receiving his JD degree in 1972. After graduating, he picked the state of Washington as his chosen state to reside in and practice law. Shortly thereafter he met his wife of now 50 years, Nina Paul Wright. They were married in 1974, after which they moved to Whidbey Island. There, they resided, raised their 3 daughters, Heather, Stephanie and Sasha, and Lee practiced law. Lee served on the South Whidbey School Board, as well as his children’s preschool, The World of Children, and was a member of the Lions Club. Lee really enjoyed his approximately 10 years helping to organize the Island County Logging Show at the county fair and thenMC’ing the show. Lee was also involved in the organizing of the first Choochokum, Langley’s arts and crafts fair, giving the first presentation to the city council. Although he remained involved in community activities throughout his life, he took tremendous pride in his greatest achievement, helping to rear his 3 daughters, who have achieved much in their own right. He is survived by his wife, Nina, his 3 daughters, Heather and her husband Robert Nicholson, Stephanie, and Sasha and her husband Jordan Husney, and his 4 grandchildren, Matilda, Sylvia, Frankie and Louis, and 3 of his 4 siblings, Doug, Betsey and Art. A family celebration of life will be held in October. Remembrances can be sent to a charity of your choice.
