Our beloved mother, Harriet Adeline (Nokelby) Stadum, age 104, was born on Aug. 31, 1916, in Norwegian Grove Township, Minn. She grew up in Pelican Rapids, Minn., graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1934.
On March 22, 1941, Mom married our father, Lloyd. They relocated to Oregon and, later, Washington state, where she lived in the Richmond Beach community of Shoreline for over 50 years. In 2017, she moved to Whidbey Island, Wash., She passed away at The Homestead, in Coupeville, Wash., on Dec. 12, 2020.
Mom loved and followed Jesus for 80 years and was active in her church, Bible Study Fellowship, and Christian Women’s Club. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed sewing, singing and playing both the piano and organ.
Along with our father, she passed the love of music and harmony on to us, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a full-time homemaker until her children were grown, when she began working for King County Social Services.
Mom was preceded in death by our father, Lloyd, their beloved 1-year-old son David and son-in-law Ross.
Mom is survived by her remaining children, Ruth (George) Stoddard, John (Kathy) Stadum, Carol (Dan) Mills, and Chris Hillstead; grandchildren Tim and Mark Stoddard, Julia (Philip) Clare, Anders Stadum, Kit (Karis) Mills, Jeff and Erik Mills, Kelsie (Ben) Anderson, Tryg (Athea) Hillstead; and great-grandchildren Peter and Andrew Mills, Beckett and Dashiell Anderson, Vincent Clare and Thorin Hillstead. Mom is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Rose Stadum, and many special nephews and nieces.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to each of Mom’s loving, exceptional caregivers, Dorris Trussler and Tiffany Williams, of The Homestead, and Pat Bayliss.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Dr. Sanders and both WhidbeyHealth Palliative and Hospice Care, for their respectful and compassionate care of Mom.
Remembrances may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission.
