Harvey Herman Jacobson, 79, of Langley, died on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville.
He was born on Dec. 22, 1927 in Duluth, Minn., the son of Herman and Esther (Johanson) Jacobson.
The family moved to Anacortes in February 1942 and Harvey graduated from Anacortes High School in 1945. In 1951, he joined the Army where he served in the 45th Infantry Division before receiving an honorable discharge.
For most of Harvey’s working life he was in the ship building and construction trade, working in both Anacortes and Kodiak, Alaska.
In 1962, he married Margaret Steele of Anacortes.
During this time he was also a member of the carpenters’ union and the Elks Lodge. After retiring in 1992, Harvey and his wife Margaret moved to Langley.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; and an older brother and sister, Morris E. and Nancy L. (Jacobson) Sullivan, both of Tacoma.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Steele of Langley; a grandson, Brett Thorsteinson of Long Beach, Calif.; a granddaughter, Andi Zahn of Sammamish; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Morgan D. and Marinette (Johnson) Jacobson of Tacoma and their son and daughter-in-law, Mark L. and Jennie Jacobson; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Wayne and Annette Lambert of Clinton, and Loren and Mabel Lambert of Everett; nieces Beth Anne (Jacobson) Jones and Colleen (Sullivan) Ide; numerous grand-nieces and nephews; and many others who loved him very much.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Evans Funeral Chapel, 1105 32nd St., Anacortes.
