Helen Martin Bass, 58, died Feb. 16, 2003, at Whidbey General Hospital.

She was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Seattle to Jo Van Martin and Helen Martin. She graduated from Seattle University in 1967. She married C.L. Bass on Jan. 6, 1978, and they lived at Useless Bay.

She was active in St. Hubert Catholic Church and worked at South Whidbey Intermediate School, Langley. She enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling in the couple’s recreational vehicle.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Michele; a son, Charlie; and five siblings, Mary Martin de Terry and husband Jose, of Lima, Peru, Joan Sater and husband Dan of Cle Elum, Franklin Martin and wife Dolores of El Paso, Texas, and Joe James Martin and Therese Martin, Tacoma.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Hubert. Memorials may be made to St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley.
