Herbert Claude Maserang (Herb Day) passed peace fully on October 9, 2022, in Coupeville, Washington at the age of 88. Herb loved music and received his first guitar in the 3rd grade. He would take it to school and practice with classmates during recess. At the age of 16 he had his own band, and they had their own radio show in Mobile, Alabama. Herb wrote a lot of his own music and would entertain at his parent’s dinner club on the weekends. Herb pursued and achieved his dream of becoming a guitarist, singer, and entertainer.
In the late 50’s Herb was on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana where he met and became friends with many of the entertainers on the show. In the late 60’s he entertained nightly at the Desert Inn Hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. Herb enjoyed traveling and entertaining our Military Troops in Greenland in 1957 and Vietnam in the 60’s. In the 80’s Herb and his wife Jo moved to Oak Harbor, Washington where they enjoyed performing and entertaining around Whidbey Island as the Herb Day and Jo Dee Duo.
Herb is survived by his daughter Patricia Latham, grandson Scott, great grand son Knox, sister Marlene Smith (Curtis), brother-in law Ken Mielke (Carol) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Claude and Lucille Bedelia Maserang, his loving wife Josephine Maserang, his son Herbert Claude Maserang Jr, brothers Richard Maserang, Freddie Bates, Max Maserang, and sister Josephine “Mitzi” Mielke. A memorial will be held to celebrate Herb’s life on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Central Cemetery, FM 1226 South, Hawley, Texas 79525 at 11:00 am.
