Jack Harth Thompson

Jack Harth Thompson, 79, of Issaquah died June 23, 2006.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926 at his family’s farm in Bayview to Clifford and Beatrice Thompson.

He graduated from Langley High School in 1944, received a B.A. from Washington State College, a master’s degree in education from Eastern Washington State College, and earned a doctorate of psychology from the University of Portland. Jack worked in public education for 31 years as a teacher, counselor, psychologist and director of special services in Bellevue. Jack and his wife Verle had a private marriage and family counseling practice for 14 years. He retired in 1994 due to health problems.

He was active as a Sunday school teacher, PTA volunteer, and coach supporting his children and grandchildren. Throughout the years he contributed to the community with involvement in services including Youth Eastside Services and the Issaquah Food Bank. He was a veteran.

Jack’s greatest joy and hobby was spending time with his family. He attended many recitals and sports events. He enjoyed the outdoors, water-skiing, snow skiing, baseball, airplanes, hiking, and golf. He liked going to the theatre and traveling. Jack had a magic touch with babies and children. He gave wonderful hugs and loved to tease. He will be remembered most for his warmth, wit and kind heart.

Survivors include his wife Verle of 58 years; son Steve Thompson, daughter-in-law Jackie, and granddaughters Kyla, Jesse, and Makaela, of Redmond; son John Thompson and granddaughters Lynn and Kari of Sammamish; son Dave Thompson, daughter-in-law Lynn, and grandson Connor of Bellingham; daughter Kathy Pazaski, son-in-law Kevin, and granddaughters Erin and Elaine of Sammamish. Survivors also include his siblings Betty Thompson Lieb of Napa, Calif. and Ted Thompson of Yuma, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, June 29 at Faith United Methodist Church in Issaquah. A burial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayview Cemetery.
