Jack L. Hoover, dearly loved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 17, 2008 after a short but fierce battle with cancer. He was 77.
Born in Waynesboro, Penn. to Charles and Catherine Hoover, he resided there until graduating from high school.
The family then moved to California where he attended Pasadena City College, joined the Air Force during the Korean War and ultimately went north to Pacific Lutheran University, where he graduated with degrees in education and business.
He and his wife, Marilyn, their two children, Jill and Jack Edward, lived in Washington state, Colorado and Montana where Jack was a university administrator at the universities in those states. He then went on to start his own business, Foundation For International Services, 30 years ago.
His family was the core of his life. He also had a deep connection to his church and to community service. Loving the game of basketball, he was inducted into the PLU Hall of Fame. He played under the coaching of Marv Harshman during the great basketball years of the 1950s.
Many wonderful trips were taken with family, and he and Marilyn, with their horses, followed trails into the wilds of Colorado and Montana that he always said were beyond description.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter Jill Reich, son-in-law Mark Reich and their daughters Christina and Melissa; his son Jack Edward Hoover, wife Sheri, and children Evan and Jenna; and his brother-in-law Dwight Johnsson.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
In lieu of flowers his wishes suggest a donation to Good Cheer Food Bank or the Pacific Lutheran University Hoover Scholarship Fund through Trinity Church.
