Jeannine A. Peterson, born and raised in Oak Harbor, WA, died May 19, 2022, at her home at Regency on Whidbey. She was 88 years old.
Jeannine was born on February 4, 1934, to Allen Richard Nienhuis and Reka (Hilberdink) Nienhuis. She attended Oak Harbor schools and graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1952. She attended one year of studies at Everett Community College and subsequently began what would become a successful 41-year career in banking. She started out as a 19-year-old file clerk and retired, in 1994, as Assistant Vice President of First Interstate Bank, Oak Harbor.
She was a life-long member of First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor and was the church organist for many years. She loved to garden and travel, taking many trips all over the world. Her family, however,
was her first love, and she cherished her role as a much loved “Auntie.” Jeannine is survived by one brother, Lanny Nienhuis, and wife Diane of Oak Harbor, and one granddaughter, Jeannine (Peterson) Parker, and one great-grandson, David Allen Parker of Modesto, CA. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Lori (Mike) Sprouse, Gail (Kelly) Nalley, Bill (Melissa) Nienhuis, Darren Nienhuis, and David (Teresa) Nienhuis, along with many great nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father Allen Nienhuis in 1949, her mother Reka Nienhuis in 2005, her brother Hank Nienhuis in 1997, and her son Lenny Peterson in 1998.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Whidbey Health MAC Unit, as well as to those who showed such loving care for Jeannine at Whidbey Regency throughout the years.
A memorial service for Jeannine will be held on Wednesday June 1 st , 2022 at 1pm, with a reception immediately following. Services will take place at Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home in Oak Harbor. Memorials may be made to Childcare Worldwide of Lynden, WA.
