Jerry B. Stevens, a long-time Oak Harbor resident, passed away on May 20, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Jerry was born November 14, 1938 in Tescott Kansas, and later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. In 1956, Jerry joined the US Navy as a Torpedoman. He was 17 years old. From very humble beginnings, Jerry traveled the world and eventually became a hard hat deep sea diver/EOD bomb disposal rock star. Jerry did six tours in Vietnam. In 1972, he was stationed in Oak Harbor and chose to retire here in 1976.
Jerry was a lifetime member at the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve, and the VFW. He also had this membership at the Elks Lodge for over 40 years. Jerry was well known for his skills. He could fix, weld, build, wire, just about anything. He was also known for his love of fishing, crabbing and having fun. He loved to travel. Jerry drove cross country on a motorcycle towing a 12 foot boat. Later, he traveled in his motorhome.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Vanir Stevens, grandson, Michael Gutensohn, niece Gina Cassel, and two great granddaughters, Jayde and Kylie Yates.
A celebration of life will be held, August 6, 2022, at 1pm, at Life Church, 1767 NE Regatta Drive, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. Please come and help me honor my amazing dad and the life he lived!
