Joan Adele Brown, 78, a devoted wife and mother, went to her Lord on March 3, 2003.
She was born May 11, 1924. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Seattle, in 1942, and from the University of Washington in 1946. Following graduate work at the UCLA Medical Center, as well as Johns Hopkins University, she became a physical therapist specializing in the treatment of children with cerebral palsy and polio.
She lived in Portland, Ore., Champaign, Ill., on Whidbey Island, and most recently Everett. She was a founding member of the Whidbey Island Chapter of the DAR as well as a member of P.E.O. She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and sang to the glory of God in the choir at First Presbyterian Church in Champaign, Ill., as well as in First Presbyterian Church of Everett. She was an accomplished pianist, as well as a private pilot licensed to fly complex aircraft. She also climbed mountains and was always ready for a new adventure. She was an accomplished woman and a good friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Joyce Groesch, and her father and mother, Louis and Frances Schauble.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Guse (Mike) of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Gail Brown (Mark) of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a son, Derek Brown of Mukilteo; five grandchildren; and her loving husband of 50 years, Frederick Brown of Everett.
Memorial gifts may be made to the choir fund of First Presbyterian Church, Everett. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. March 8 at First Presbyterian Church.
