Harrison B. Jones, 60, died Dec. 13, 2003, at his home on Whidbey Island after a prolonged fight with cancer.
He was born July 14, 1943, in Seattle. He served in the Air Force and graduated from the University of Washington. He received a master of fine arts degree from the University of California—Davis. His career as an artist extended over many years. He enjoyed discussing politics, telling stories, reading and going fast. Mr. Jones enjoyed motorcycles and was rarely without one.
Also, he was a member and past commodore of the Multihull Association, and spent as much time as possible racing and cruising on Puget Sound and beyond. He wrote about his experiences in articles for Multihull magazine and the association’s newsletter. He loved being around boats, and spent the past several years working as a yacht broker for a friend, Rod Gibbons, owner of Cruising Cats USA, Seattle.
He is survived by Deborah, his wife of 26 years; a daughter, Tara Dodd (and Jeffrey); two grandchildren, Josephine and Maxwell; and a brother, David B. Jones (and Yvonne).
His wife said she will have many true stories to tell their grandchildren about their long-distance courtship, their five-week cross country sidecar trip, his career as an artist, Thanksgiving dinners, his passion for sailing and his love of motorcycles.
The family said Mr. Jones wanted to be cremated and did not want a mournful goodbye. The family suggests memorials to Friends of Home Health and Hospice, 101 N. Main St., Coupeville, WA 98239.
Visser Funeral Home, Langley, is in charge of arrangements.
