Katherine (Irene) Adams
Did you hear the bell ring? Another Angel has entered heaven. Katherine (Irene) Adams joined our Lord Jesus at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at HomePlace Care Facility in Oak Harbor.
Unfortunately, our friends here on Whidbey did not get to know this lovely woman. She had dementia late in her life which made it difficult if not impossible for anyone to get to know the real woman that she was.
Irene was non-judgmental; non-prejudiced; a loving. happy woman as long as her children were happy. While she lived with her daughter she volunteered at a U.S. Navy Clinic in Dahlgren, Va. daily for almost four years. She and her daughter were mutual caregivers.
She was born on May 7, 1928, in Morgan County, Ind. She married at 18 and after four children and two divorces from their fathers, ended up living with her daughter, Cheryl, in 1985.
She traveled to Virginia, back to Indiana, then back to Virginia eventually driving with Cheryl across the country to join her son-in-law Howard in Washington in 2003.
They moved to the Island in February 2005. We are truly sorry that more here did not get to know her. Everyone loved her and called her Mom. There was always enough food in the house and a place to sleep no matter who showed up. There was never a more devout Christian than Irene. She will be forever in our hearts and remembered for the very special person that she was.
She leaves two daughters Pauline Watkins of Huntington, Ind. and Cheryl Adams-Taylor (Howard Taylor) of Langley; five grandchildren Matt (Molly) Adams of Huntington, Indiana, Casey (Cara) Adams of Indianapolis, Ind., Stephanie (Ted) Hendry of Fort Wayne, Ind., Scott (Abby) Watkins of Ossian, Ind. and Lisa Adams of Huntington, Ind.; six great-grandchildren, Cody, Kori, Dustin and Dalton, Chloe and one on the way. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Vivian and son William. She also leaves one sister, Anna Mae Barnett of Arizona and two brothers Harold Arnold and Everett (Emma Jane) Arnold both of Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.
Since she didn’t have a church or a pastor her daughters will have a wake at 4680 Cedar Hill Road, Langley, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. We hope our friends will come and help us celebrate Irene (Mom).
