Kenneth Goodson McClellan was surrounded by his family, when he passed away Feb. 14, 2008 in Coupeville. He was born April 16, 1923 in Seattle.
Ken served his country in the Washington Army National Guard and the Marine Corps. He served both in World War II and Korea. Ken was honorably discharged from the Marines as a gunnery sergeant (E-7).
After the Marines, Ken worked for the Pomona Fire Department, Pomona, Calif. Ken retired as a fire captain in November 1967.
Ken moved his young family from California to Whidbey Island in 1969.
Ken served as a fire commissioner for 18 years at South Whidbey’s Fire District 3. He served on the Governor’s Board for Volunteer Firefighters for six years and was a member of the Marine Corp League.
Ken is survived by his wife Joy McClellan of Clinton; brother Dick McClellan (Janet) of Clinton; sister Luanne Brown (Bill of Arizona); children Tim McClellan (Gwen), Cheri Strehle (Steven), Della Stryken (Kelly), Mark McClellan (Cheryl), Kathie Fudge (Larry) and Traci Cheever (Bud); grandchildren Ken, Lynette, Larry, Jason, Christa, Tyler, Josh, Amanda, Justin, Meghan, Aaron, Brianna and Erica; great-grandchildren Kenicia, Jackson, Logan, Jayden and Keira; and his beloved pet “Smoke Dog.”
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, with a viewing one hour prior to services at the church.
Private burial will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
