Lana Suz zane-Mapuana Gheen, aged 71, passed away on November 4, 2024, in Oak Harbor, Washington. Born on March 7, 1953, Lana dedicated her life to her family, community, and faith.

Lana’s early education was completed at Oak Harbor Elementary School, followed by Oak Harbor High School. She furthered her studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. Professionally, Lana contributed significantly to her community as the director of the Valdez Alaska Visitors Center from 1996 to 2000 and touched many lives as a substitute teacher at Valdez High School.

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lana served in various leadership roles within the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations. Her commitment to her faith and community was unwavering.

Lana was a creative soul who found joy in sewing, quilting, and water-color painting. Her fabric art, especially during the holidays, brought beauty and warmth to her family home. Above all, Lana cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, embodying love and care in every aspect of her life.

Lana is survived by her husband, Kay Gheen; her sons, Kekoa, Kourtneny Kawika, Michael, and Paul Gheen; and her grandchildren, Timber Speese, Ethan, Daisy, Iris, Kai, and Lanakea Gheen. She also leaves behind her sister, Puanani Eppard, and brothers, Clyde, Kenneth, and Tracy Eppard. Lana was preceded in death by her eldest son, Mokihana Gheen, and her parents, Kenneth and Lanakila Eppard.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 201 Northeast O’Leary Street in Oak Harbor, Washington. A viewing is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Saturday November 16th, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM. Lana’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
